Kevin Bridges on keeping healthy - Interview for GOSH/Channel 4 Comedy Gala

Kevin Bridges on keeping healthy – Interview for GOSH/Channel 4 Comedy Gala

Posted on 16 Mar 2010 at 8:49am

GOSH spoke exclusively to comedian Kevin Bridges ahead of Channel 4’s Comedy Gala. The Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena is benefitting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

What motivated you to get involved with the gala? It’s great to be able to give back to people through what you do and through comedy. It’s going to be a great night too.And personally it’s going to be amazing playing to 15,000 people.

Do you have any connections to GOSH at all? No, not directly but I know all about it from its reputation.

What are you thoughts on the comedy gala benefitting GOSH? It’s fabulous to be able to help a place like the hospital.

What do you do to stay fit? I go to the gym… for about seven to 10 minutes. Then it’s straight off to the steam room and sauna. I like to pretend to myself that this helps. Other than that I swim. I tour a lot and find that I end up eating junk food so I try and exercise when I can. I also play five-a-side football. When you look at it like that I actually do more than I thought.

What are your top tips for looking and feeling good? Swimming makes you feel good. I also try never to eat a big breakfast like a fry-up because if I do that’s me for the day. I won’t do anything after that. I try and have cereal, a bit of toast and fruit for breakfast. I stand a chance of doing something with the day then.

Have you ever had to stay in hospital? How was it? I had an asthma attack when I was seven that meant I had to go to hospital. It was mad because up until that point I never knew I had asthma. I was in bed coughing and when my dad saw me he said I’d turned blue. I was rushed to hospital and straight into intensive care in York Hill Hospital in Glasgow. It was surreal at the time because up until then I didn’t know I had asthma. It was scary. But when you get used to it, getting looked after and all that attention is great. At that age, getting two weeks off school is pretty special too. I actually when back there and did a charity gig for them because they had been so good to me.

What is your advice to children and young people who have health problems? If you have to go to hospital just remember that all of your mates will be thinking of you and everybody will be wishing you well – just enjoy the time off.

Would you have liked a health website written specifically teenagers when you were younger? It would have been great. At school we had people from the NHS come in and give talks but being able to go to a website would have been a lot easier.

Do you have any other health advice you’d like to share? Everything in moderation!

GOSH spoke exclusively to comedian Jack Whitehall ahead of Channel 4’s Comedy Gala. The Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena is benefitting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

What motivated you to get involved with the gala? It’s something great to get involved in. The opportunity to do something that helps such a great hospital is something you’d never even think about turning down.

Do you have any connections to GOSH at all?Not really. Well, I went to school with Jane Collins’ daughter and I heard she works here. What does she do? .Oh wow! I did a speech at her daughter’s birthday… so I guess she owes me one!

What are you thoughts on the comedy gala benefitting GOSH?I think it’s great that the comedy gala is benefitting GOSH. It’s a great cause.

What do you do to stay fit?I play five-a-side football but I’m not very good to be honest. I also run. In fact, I go for runs with my mum down the Hammersmith. She’s not as fast as me though – I set the pace.

What are your top tips for looking and feeling good?Five-a-day. It’s all about the five-a-day isn’t it? Actually, my tip is to cheat a bit – but in a good way – like have two smoothies and be done for the week.If I’m going to be completely honest sometimes I don’t always manage to have my five-a-day and I feel bad, but I soon get over it.

Have you ever had to stay in hospital? How was it?I haven’t had to stay in hospital but my dad has. He had a stomach illness, the same one as Stewart Lee, and he was in for three weeks. His illness meant he didn’t each much of his food so I did. It was rank.Oh, and my sister was in for shingles once. We both had it but she had it really bad. She still has scars from it.I think shingles is the worst illness to get – not because it is bad but because it sounds so fun: ‘shingles’. It sounds like it’s a joke. It should be a comedy illness

What is your advice to children and young people who have health problems?Be nice to your mum. You need your mum to look after you when you are ill. They’re really important when you are ill so you need to look after them.

Would you have liked a health website written specifically teenagers when you were younger?Yeah, there were, but it’s good to see that there are things like that are out there.

Do you have any other health advice you’d like to share?Get your five-a-day!

The Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena is benefitting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

What do you do to stay fit? I used to run. I was consistent and would run for three miles a day. I did it for a whole week but ended up so far from home at the end of it I had to get a cab back.

What are your top tips for looking and feeling good? My top tips for feeling and looking good are stay in bad and avoid looking at mirrors.

Have you ever had to stay in hospital? How was it? I was in hospital this morning. I’m on day release today. They gave me lots of medication, told me to behave and sent me on my way.

What motivated you to get involved with the gala? Me and my wife are involved in a number of children’s charities and we do as much as we can. We have family who have children who have needed a lot of hospital care. Some have needed major attention like lung transplants so we do are bit to help them out now.

Do you have any connections to GOSH at all? I go up to the hospital sometimes to see the patients. I like to try and do my bit to make them feel better.

What are you thoughts on the comedy gala benefitting GOSH? I think it fantastic. It’s just fantastic to be able to help out in this way. It’s a way for us all to be able to give something back.

GOSH Channel 4 Comedy Gala – Jack Dee Interview

Posted on 16 Mar 2010 at 8:32am

GOSH spoke exclusively to comedian Jack Dee ahead of Channel 4’s Comedy Gala. The Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena is benefitting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

What motivated you to get involved with the Channel 4’s Comedy Gala? When I was told about it I was going to do it. I didn’t even have to think about it.

Do you have any connections to GOSH at all? My son was at the hospital when he was younger and had to stay in over several nights. It was no picnic – being in hospital never is – but everybody at the hospital were great and he’s OK now.

What are you thoughts on Channel 4’s Comedy Gala benefitting GOSH? It is great. Some causes there are no questions about helping.

What do you do to stay fit? I go to the gym and I do a bit of running. I’m regular but I’m no fanatic. I find that it’s been useful.I’ve actually just got a personal trainer. It’s Pilates for me next too. It might not be for me though.

What are your top tips for looking and feeling good? Have you seen me? I don’t think I’m the person to ask. I don’t know, maybe smile a lot: smile and the whole world smiles with you.

Have you ever had to stay in hospital? How was it? I’ve just come out. I was there last night for a hernia operation – I think I can still feel the morphine in my system.

How was it?

I really enjoyed it. Actually, I think I did. I had my own TV which was great. It was the first time I had control over the remote controller since my kids were born. In fact, I might book to go back in…

What is your advice to children and young people who have health problems? I wouldn’t dream to give them advice. They find their own way through what they have to go through and I couldn’t imagine some of the things they have to deal with.I find how kids can deal with some very serious health problems staggering. It is inspiring.

Would you have liked a health website written specifically teenagers when you were younger? I would have liked it. It would definitely have helped.

Do you have any other health advice you’d like to share? Yes I do: if you feel that there is something wrong with you, go to the hospital. Don’t worry if you think it is embarrassing – these people have dealt with everything so it isn’t going to matter to them. Getting things checked out is always the best thing to do.

GOSH Do it again – Amazing Channel 4 Comedy Gala

This really is comedy royalty at its best as the UK’s best and brightest unite for one night only in Channel 4’s Comedy Gala, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital including Alan Carr,Michael McIntyre, Johnathan Ross ,Lee Evans, Bill Bailey, Rob Brydon and Jack Dee.

The Comedy Gala at London’s O2 Arena is benefitting Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on some great Interviews with some of the finest

Firstly have a listen and watch & find our for yourself , exactly whats going on!

GOSH spoke exclusively to comedian Michael McIntyre ahead of Channel 4’s Comedy Gala.

What do you do to stay fit?

Just standing up I’m out of breath, which is really unfortunate as when I’m on stage I have one of those mic things on my head where it is right in front of my mouth so you can hear how out of breath I am. It’s no secret. I have actually got myself a personal trainer now, his name is Matt.  I don’t know why I pay him. I do all the work and all he does is count. 1, 2, 3, 4… that’s all he does! It seems all you need to be able to do to be a personal trainer is count. I could have got my accountant to do it – it would have been cheaper.

What are your top tips for looking and feeling good?

I like to look at the day as two days. You wake up, have three meals and then go back to bed. Then wake up in the afternoon, have three meals and then go back to bed. And that’s how you do it, that it how you become happy and fat.

Have you ever had to stay in hospital? How was it?

I was there when my wife was giving birth but I just sat there in stunned silence. I was also in hospital myself when I dislocated my shoulder but I don’t remember it. I have been told about it, and apparently I was really arrogant. I was out of it on morphine and all I would talk about was my tour. I don’t remember a thing about it.

What is your advice to children and young people who have health problems? Oh, no. I can’t give out advice. Not someone like me.

Would you have liked a health website written specifically teenagers when you were younger? It would have been lovely to have a website like this when I was younger. All we had was the little red book under my mother’s bed. It can be dangerous to Google injuries so it’s good to have something like this to trust. You go on some sites and it’s terrifying. Do you have any other health advice you’d like to share? I’m not the one to be giving out health advice. I was told that if I exercised I would have loads of energy and look good but that’s not the case. I only still go because I paid in bulk. I exercise and now I look terrible AND feel terrible.

Posh And Becks to Split up?

Posh And Becks to Split up?

Posted on 05 Jan 2010 at 1:47pm

That’s the question bookies Paddy Power are asking today after seeing a gamble on ‘Brand Beckham’ becoming the first celebrity pair to split in 2010.

The bookmaker slashed the odds on Victoria and David calling it a day from 80/1 to 33/1, to 18/1 before finally settling at 10/1. The odds were chopped after a number of new customers signed up with paddypower.com to have a maximum stake bet on the celebrity market.

The odds are available under ‘hatches, matches and dispatches’ on the bookies website. The price move has now sparked fears that a shock split announcement could be about to break for one of the world’s most famous couples.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “The Beckham’s were 80/1 on our list as they’ve been through some tough times before but always showed a united front – it’s hard to imagine them splitting up but there IS a reason why these people are having a bet -we just don’t know it yet!”

It’s not the first time the Irish bookmaker has reported a gamble on their 2010 ‘Hatches, Matches and Dispatches’ market. On 23rd December Paddy Power saw a significant number of bets come in for Cheryl and Ashley Cole to become the first celebrity couple to announce they’re having a baby in 2010. The couple are still the Even money favourites but it remains to be seen whether or not Mrs Cole has a bun in the oven!

Ant and Dec favourites to win Best TV in National TV awards

Posted on 05 Jan 2010 at 1:44pm

Geordie genii Ant and Dec are the bookies red-hot favourites to win their ninth consecutive award for Best TV presenters at the National TV Awards on 20 January.

Bookies Paddy Power make the nations favourite hosts just 1/4 to bag the award while their popular show ‘The Saturday Night Takeaway’ is also short odds at 11/10 to beat The Paul O’Grady Show, Big Brother and Ant and Dec’s other TV gem ‘I’m A Celebrity’ to the accolade.

In other categories, David Tenant looks set to take the gong for Best Drama Performance for his role as the Doctor while ‘Doctor Who’ itself is 1/3 to win Best Drama. EastEnders Lacey Turner is the 5/4 tip to walk away with the Best Serial Drama Performance for her challenging role as Stacey Slater while EastEnders is 4/6 to beat rivals Corrie and Emmerdale in the Best Serial Drama category.

The most hotly contested category looks to be in the Best Talent Show where both Simon Cowell’s X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent will battle it out with Strictly Come Dancing to be crowned King.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power said: “These really are the awards that matter as they’re completely voted for by the public. It will be a case of déjà vu for Ant and Dec who are heading for their ninth win but the other categories could still throw up a few surprises!”
