Post-mortem results announced on Tuesday concluded that Gately had died from natural causes, and a judge said his body could now be returned home from Majorca.
The Irish singer was found dead on Saturday on the sofa in his apartment in Port Andratx on the island after a night out with his ‘husband’ Andrew Cowles.
Gately was born and bred in the Sheriff Street area of Dublin and his funeral is being planned for St Laurence O’Toole’s Church.
Lawyer Gerald Kean, a spokesman for Gately’s family in Ireland, said: “The family are pleased that the post-mortem has been completed. They are pleased that the results of the post mortem indicate exactly what they said all along, that Stephen died as a result of natural causes.
